Since the beginning of the 21st Century, Billy Kincaid has been constantly working hard releasing hit single after hit single, and in the year 2007 stands as Barbados' premier solo hip-hop artist.
The vision started to transform into reality with the critically-acclaimed success of The Billy Kincaid Project, a 16-track collection which included radio-friendly jams, introspective messages and powerful collaborations with other up-and-coming Barbadian rappers and producers. Spearheaded by the two singles "Bajetown Anthem" and "Show And Prove", the album sold a significant number of units, positioning Kincaid one step closer to achieving superstardom.
Even though he started to make a considerate amount of noise, Billy Kincaid showed no signs of slowing down. 2004 was equally as productive as the previous years, with Billy filming the "Show And Prove" video, working with fellow artists overseas, and releasing material on radio and online. The "Show And Prove" video has been on the Roaming TV Show countdown, and has even been seen on Jamaica's Hype! TV and MTV's newest Caribbean station Tempo.
2005 was the year that success would come his way again, and tenfold at that. After the Crop-Over season came to a close, Billy released the hip-hop/R&B fusion "Take Me Home", produced by KB Sharp and featuring soca/reggae songstress Shontelle, who is well known as a songwriter (Alison Hinds'/J. Status' "Roll") and a performer ("Colours" with Natahlee). This track was well received by the Barbadian public, and even earned the award for Best Hip-Hop Single at the 2006 Barbados Music Awards.
In November 2005, 3 months after the release of "Take Me Home", Billy was on the grind again, promoting the biggest hit of his career: "We Live On". Produced by KB Sharp & Minim, the song fuses hip-hop with a sub-genre of calypso termed as "social commentary", and also contains a sample created by living legend and Cultural Ambassador The Mighty Gabby. This positive and uplifting number has logged dizzying spins on radio stations across the island, and made its way onto the Caribbean Top 40, remaining there for 10 weeks. “We Live On” also earned Billy his second Barbados Music Award for Best Hip-Hop Single at the show in 2007.
Billy keeps himself busy working on outside projects. He’s featured on the Reggae Baje Vol. 1 compilation, providing a verse on the posse cut entitled “Unity”. He’s also featured on “Groove For LIU” off Sunflower, the debut album by well-known trumpeter, composer and arranger Ricky Brathwaite.
With all this time spent constantly in the lab, don't mistake him for a studio artist. On stage, he has shared the spotlight with many popular local, regional and international artists: The Mighty Gabby, Rupee, Edwin Yearwood, Toni Norville, Fat Joe, Lloyd Banks, Buju Banton, Anthony B, Luciano, Morgan Heritage, and Third World, just to name a few.
In 2007, under Hit Island Records, Billy Kincaid will release his newest single “Champions”, a collaboration with 2006 Party Monarch and Road March King Barry Chandler. This blend of hip-hop and soca voices, coupled with innovative production by KB Sharp, is sure to be embraced by “West Indian massive” all over the world.
